NYC Traffic Rule 4-15(j) states that the total length of a trailer truck from front to back should be no longer than 55 feet. Because the front cabs of these trucks are always longer than 2 feet, this means that trailers that have 53 foot long trailer sections are all illegal and should not be on the NYC streets. One citizen vigilante has taken to social media to call out the violators of this traffic rule under the Twitter handles @illegal53NYC and @ConradGangone
It may seem trival and and oddly specific violation to call out, but our small, crowded City streets and tight corners are not setup to handle these large trailers, often leading to damaged vehicles, signs, infrastructure, and even worse, pedestrian and biker injuries and/or casualties.
So big it blocks the whole intersection. @FedEx this vehicle is illegal for use in NYC under NYC Traffic Rule 4-15(j). Cc @NYPDMTS @NYCSpeakerCoJo pic.twitter.com/lecUYJxuhl

Sure, this makes sense in @MetroTechBID at 5:30pm on a Tuesday. What could possibly go wrong, @NYPD84Pct? @illegal53NYC pic.twitter.com/A6zeViXeYk

Another @illegal53NYC on Kent Ave. Took at least 5 attempts to pull in; left before he succeeded. Also, poor communication from workers to cyclists to stop. @transalt @StephenLevin33 #bikenyc pic.twitter.com/B1CyzhFcfO

On Kent at S 10th, condo regularly uses @illegal53NYC. Here’s one blocking entire roadway, drives on sidewalk and is still fully blocking 2way #bikeNYC lane after fully pulling in. @transalt pic.twitter.com/U586MElcKJ
