Once the world's largest dump and human-made structure, Fresh Kills has been transformed into a beautiful state park! Look at the startling contrast between the before and after images of the restoration of the landfill.
Although the park is not yet open to the public, it is on track to be New York City's largest when complete. The return of the landfill to nature, including the extensive capping and constant environmental monitoring, are an enormous undertaking for the city's Parks Department.
