Released just today, Underground: A Human History of the Worlds Beneath Our Feet is an interesting book from author Will Hunt that explores all subterranean man-made things. Hunt is currently a visiting scholar at the NYU Institute for Public Knowledge and while Underground is his first book, his writings have appeared in The Economist, The Paris Review Daily, Discover, The Atavist Magazine, and Outside amongst others.
A panoramic investigation of the subterranean landscape, from sacred caves and derelict subway stations to nuclear bunkers and ancient underground cities—an exploration of the history, science, architecture, and mythology of the worlds beneath our feet
While not specifically about New York City, the book goes into detail about our rich, underground life throughout the five boroughs. Grab a hardcover copy of the book on Amazon.
