The Center for an Urban Future is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that is a
NYC-based think tank dedicated to highlighting the critical opportunities and challenges facing New York and other cities, and providing fresh ideas and workable solutions to policymakers.
Every year, they research and analyze the number of chain stores opening and closing, the produce a comprehensive report that details the data by zip code, borough, city wide and more. This year's findings prove what we all have noticed walking through the streets — There has been a huge increase of chain stores being introduced all over the City.
Our seventh annual ranking of national retailers in New York City reveals that the expansion of chain stores across the city picked up considerably over the past year. Overall, there was a 2.8 percent increase in the number of national retail locations between 2013 and 2014, a much more significant increase than the 0.5 percent gain between 2012 and 2013.
