The Natural Areas Conservancy is a local organization which works alongside the City of New York in order to "promote nature’s diversity and resilience across the five boroughs."
A new interactive map created by the conservancy shows each and every natural space (wetlands, forests, and grasslands) in the City, and there are way more than you think there are.
New York City has abundant and surprising ecological diversity – even more than Yellowstone National Park. Over 10,000 acres of natural areas (that’s 12 times the size of Central Park!) are across the five boroughs.
Check out the full map to learn about natural spaces in the City you probably didn't know were here.
