The Bowery is one of only two roads in Manhattan that have no suffix. It's not Bowery Street or Bowery Avenue, it's simply Bowery. Can you name the other? (Answer)
In this vintage photograph from around 1905, we are looking north along the Bowery from the intersection of Grand Street. You can see the still-standing Bowery Savings Bank building on the left, and the tracks for the old 3rd Avenue El. Here is a Google Street View of how this same view looks today:
