South African design and manufacturing firm Shift Perspective recently created this interesting large wool carpet complete with a pretty accurate map of Midtown and Lower Manhattan. Streets are made of one color wool, waterways another, and blocks another yet. Not only are the colors different for each layer, there is also a difference in pile height for each, meaning it has a sort-of, three-dimensional feel to it.
We decided to pay tribute to this magnificent city by creating a carpet which maps out almost every street, bridge, waterway and concrete surface. It took 3 months to complete the final design with a lot of backwards and forwards to perfect the design. Dimension has been introduced into the design through different pile heights. The lowest pile features the blue waterways and intricate black streets with the medium pile height representing grey concrete surfaces and green lawns. The highest pile represents the dark green tree tops.
The range is extremely limited, with only 25 being made, selling for $4,000 each. Check out the product page for more information.
