The Day After Tomorrow may be coming sooner than you think. Climate change and rising sea levels could make Hurricane Sandy's damage look minuscule in comparison.
Fortunately, we have innovative minds such as former Cornell student Walmir Luz. Luz's masterplan to adapt Manhattan to the future recently won second prize in the urban planning category at the A'Design Awards.
To cope with the floods, the city would build more barriers on Manhattan edges. Permeable streets would allow the water to pass through. […] Water would become a natural part of city life. Manhattan would also have more marshes and green spaces.
