Photographer Gail Andreu has been taking photos of New York City professionally for over a decade. Her approach to photography has been to accentuate the beauty in the ordinary, or forgotten elements we see everyday.
I try to photograph things from a unique perspective. People "see" things everyday but how much do they actually notice? I want people to notice the beauty around them.
An example of this can be seen in her Cross Town Sunset shot.
Cross Town Sunset is probably my favorite NYC shot because of it’s unique perspective. It was taken from Tudor City Place and E. 42nd Street. Ever since I was a kid, I was fascinated by the Chrysler Building. You could see the silvery Art Deco building from all around the city, and when the sun hit it just right it appeared to glow. As larger skyscrapers were built, the Chrysler Building was dwarfed and I feel like it still needs to be shown in all of its glory.
Gail is currently working on some writings, waiting for the warmer weather to come so she can continue to explore the City and find more great shots like the ones above. Prints of Gail's work can be purchased at various sizes from her website, starting at just $7.
