The New York City Department of Health recently released its 2016 numbers on where it has identified rodent hot zones. The interactive map below lets you look up your address to see if you are in a "rat reservoir" zone.
According to the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, buildings, sidewalks, parks and sewers in rat reservoirs are targeted for extra exterminator visits and intensified enforcement from health inspectors. Since the program was launched in 2015, officials say rat reservoirs are working. "The vast majority of them show reductions from 30 to 50 percent in rats, so we really do believe it is a successful approach," said Caroline Bragdon, who serves as the city’s director of neighborhood intervention for pest control.
