The 7 Line Extension was supposed to open last year. Then it got pushed back to late 2014, then to very early 2015. Now the opening of the extension is delayed again to mid year 2015. WNYC reports:
On Monday, MTA executive Anthony D'Amico updated board members on the $2.4 billion project. "It is very likely that the opening of the station will not occur until several weeks following the second quarter of 2015," said D'Amico. One problem: installation of the Ethernet (computer network) system, which affected escalators, elevators, fire alarms, fans and traction power. Until that is resolved, testing for the fire alarms and communication systems can't be completed.
At this point, it seems like the extension will never be completed, but we'll be sure to keep you posted. There is some good news to come from today's announcement though. The MTA released several photographs of the new station and artwork found inside, hoping they will tide you over to summer and make you forget the many, many delays.
