This past Sunday was the United Airlines NYC Half Marathon, but the race didn’t end there; Sunday was also National Macaron Day!
Macaron shops and bakeries around the City celebrated by passing out free samples, and some served up some unique creations where a portion of the sales were also donated to local non-profit City Harvest.
Pastry chef Franois Payard broke the internet when he released photos of his creation for Macaron Day, the Macaron Donut (or the Macaronut). Its moist base and classic macaron top was filled with a delicious strawberry cream that was flavorful and extremely sweet. The confection was only available Sunday March 20th, but will be available for purchase again this upcoming weekend, and potentially in the future given its popularity. The bakery handed out two exclusive flavors for the national food day: strawberry and cream, and black and white. (Both were delicious!)
Not only is L.A. warm and sunny, but Californians are also able to obtain cute and collectible character macarons. Macaron Parlour finally answered New Yorkers prayers and brought back two of their character macarons, Totoro and Pusheen, and tapped into all of our childhood memories with a cookie monster macaron (which, of course, included a chocolate chip cookie!) The characters were available at their Upper West Side and East Village Shops while supplies lasted. They gave out free samples of some of their classic flavors including: Earl Grey, Maple Bacon, and Cheetos!
We'll obviously all be training for the NYC Half Marathon in preparation for next year's National Macaron Day!
