As a natural archipelago, the area surrounding New York City has dozens of islands.
Obviously there are the well-known ones: Manhattan, Long, Roosevelt, Governors, Staten etc... but there are several islands
which once part of the City that no longer exist. Some of them were lost to landfill, or converted into bridge pylons, even destroyed by hurricanes.
