A new type of 'single ring' robocall scam is hitting New Yorkers lately, and the FCC has issued a warning to ignore it. The scam works like this:
- A target will receive a call from a number where it only rings one time.
- The target may end up calling the number back, thinking it was a legitimate call
- The target ends up calling a premium number, where a charge would hit the phone bill.
The best way to avoid this kind of scam is to use a robocall-filtering app, such as RoboKiller, available on the iTunes App Store and Google Play.
