When it was built in 1913, the Woolworth Building was the tallest building in the world at a height of 792 feet over 57 floors.
At the time, it was a marvel of technology, featuring an all-steel frame with a foundation set deep into the Manhattan bedrock. It was adorned with exquisite art and detail work, including extensive terra cotta cladding, marble and stained glass.
In this video from the New York Daily News, real estate editor Katherine Clarke takes you behind the scenes of the buildings conversion into luxury condos.
The Woolworth Building soars above City Hall Park at the gateway to TriBeCa. Unprecedented in size and sophistication when it was first completed in 1913, this graceful tower remains an elegant jewel in the skyline of downtown Manhattan. Today, the top thirty floors have been skillfully transformed by famed architect Thierry W Despont into The Woolworth Tower Residences: a limited collection of thirty-four luxury condominium residences atop of celebrated New York City landmark.
