Back in the early 1980s, when the New York City subway was a dirty, grimy, and crime-ridden place, the red-beret wearing Guardian Angels would protect commuters by establish a presence on the subway that the police could not, or would not, give.
In this video from [VICE], watch as the group, led by original founder Curtis Silwa, reemerges following a series of bizarre subway slashings that occurred earlier this year.
We spend a day with the Guardian Angels, a second-wave resurgence of the 70's crime fighting group that says it's back protecting the streets and subways of New York City after a series of slashings earlier this year.
