The longest of all the East River bridges at 3,725 feet, the Queensboro Bridge opened to the public on June 18th, 1909 and is still used by over 200,000 commuters daily.
Connecting Midtown Manhattan with Long Island City in Queens, the bridge crosses over Roosevelt Island, a convenient spot to place two of the bridge's 4 towers. The design of the bridge is unique to the other East River bridge crossings in that it is a five span cantilever truss, the only bridge that is not a suspension bridge using cables.
