This great vintage photograph shows the R.H. Macy and Company block-wide department store and surrounding Herald Square in 1905. The view is from atop a building across 6th Avenue looking west, with 35th Street on the right and 34th Street just barely showing on the left. Here is a Google StreetView showing a similar view from the ground today:
