SURFACE, a new photo book by Danish photographer Søren Solkær, is an interesting project where street artists pose next to their (often illegal) works. More than 130 artists will be featured, including Shepard Fairey, Lady Pink, Swoon and many more, in many cities across the globe including New York City.
SURFACE features portraits of many of the most prominent figures on the contemporary scene as well as the pioneering icons. This expansive collection includes over 140 artists who have been photographed with their artwork in urban locations spanning Copenhagen, Stavanger, London, Miami, Paris, Las Vegas, Athens, Sydney, Melbourne, New York, Los Angeles and Berlin.
The book will be published by Gingko Press and is set to be released in February 2015. One of the artists summed up the appeal of the project nicely:
The street artists always cover their face, and he is working on a book with portraits of street artists, so it's quite ironic, you know.
