This may just be the saddest thing you have heard all day. After a century of poaching fueled by a false belief in the magical medical qualities of a ground up Rhinoceros horn, the world-wide count of the Northern White Rhino is down to only three—one male, and two females—but they are unable to reproduce. To honor the last ever Northern White Rhinos that will exist on this Earth, artists Gillie and Marc Schattner have created a massive 17-foot-tall bronze sculpture of their likenesses stacked together. See the statue at Astor Place in Manhattan on March 15th and shed a tear for their species.
