An MTA themed exhibit in a museum must be some old-timey trains or vintage busses right?
Not according to the Society of Illustrators, an upscale art society who seeks "to promote the art of illustration, to appreciate its history and evolving nature through exhibitions, lectures and education, and to contribute the service of its members to the welfare of the community at large."
A new exhibit at the museum called New York View celebrates some of the best illustrated artwork that has been commissioned by the MTA Arts & Design program to line the subway and bus walls.
New York View celebrates a selection of work by artists, illustrators and graphic designers who have been commissioned by the MTA to design posters and who have been selected to create permanent public work for the MTA system. We examine the way the artists move from pen and paper to more durable materials like glass, mosaic and stainless steel as work is translated to become a permanent fixture in the neighborhoods of New York.
Catch the exhibit is on view from until August 15th.
