Subway surfers in the City are constantly popping up in the news as they fall off trains, injure themselves and/or equipment, and even get killed trying to get that thrill. In this video from Mass Appeal, hear why this subway surfer risks death to ride on the top of the New York City subway.
“I have an addiction with riding on top of the trains, whether I like it or not,” says Carlos (not his real name), a 20-something subway surfer who regularly puts his life in danger. For him, it’s therapeutic. “It helps with mild depression,” he explains. “I like making those videos.” (The native New Yorker agreed to be interviewed on the condition of anonymity.)
