Our friends at Harlem World recently found this great vintage photograph taken from an early 20th century postcard.
The original article states it is from around 1910, but construction on the Riverside Church had not started until 1927, completing and opening in 1930.
General Grant National Memorial opened in 1897 and is the impressive building on the right, the largest mausoleum in North America housing President Ulysses Simpson Grant and his wife, Julia.
A great image on this bright fall day (no leaves on trees) shortly after the completion of the construction of the area here in Morningside Heights in West Harlem. The image must have been was taken from an apartment building at 123rd Street from the 3rd or 4th floor. Farther to the right is the Claremont Hotel behind north of Grants Tomb and to the left Columbia University.
