The Empire State Building is one of the most iconic buildings in the world. Opened in 1931, the building's modern Art Deco appearance was a sight for all, and a relatively low Midtown skyline meant you could see the building for miles.
In this vintage photograph from 1933, expertly colorized by Deborah Humpries, you can imagine just what the City was like when the Empire State Building first opened. The photo was captured looking South from the corner of 5th Avenue & 41st Street. Here is what the same view looks like today.
