Brooklyn photographer Samuel Gottscho is well known for his New York City photography in the 1930's. We have featured his photos on Viewing NYC a few times before, and now we have this gem to share with you as well.
On December 6th, 1933, Gottscho snapped this photograph of the recently opened GE Building (aka 30 Rock) standing tall amongst the relatively shorter Midtown buildings of the early 20th Century. Nowadays, 30 Rock is surrounded by equally tall or slightly shorty buildings, making this "naked" vintage view of the skyscraper even more special.
Visit the photo's entry on the Library of Congress catalog for a massive full-resolution copy of the photo.
