Captured by photographer Jamie Kalikow in the summer of 1981, this great vintage photograph shows a little girl (Kalikow's niece) reading a book on a graffiti-filled 1 train headed to South Ferry, Manhattan. Before the subway would be cleaned up later that decade, very few people rode them in the early 1980s, hence the vast, open space on the train we rarely see today.
