This great vintage photograph from 1984 shows Dave's Restaurant, a classic New York Diner that existed on the southeast intersection of Broadway and Canal Street. While there used to be a massive neon sign that lit up the intersection, when the restaurant departed, so did that old-school neon sign. Here is a Google StreetView of what the same corner looks like today:
