Many places in New York’s Chinatown sell soup dumplings, or Xiao Long Bao, but Joe’s Shanghai is the most famous for the dish. The restaurant says it was the first to bring soup dumplings to New York City, and first opened in Flushing in 1995 and in Chinatown a year later. The dumplings come in either pork or crab meat varieties, served in a bamboo basket, and the restaurant is often packed with long lines. Insider’s Taryn Varricchio visited Joe’s to see why the restaurant is the go-to spot for a full soup dumpling experience.
