South Ferry subway station has been closed to the public since October 22nd, 2012, after Hurricane Sandy dumped over 15 million gallons of corrosive salt water into the station. After 3 years of abandonment, and two years of renovations and repairs, the southernmost Manhattan subway station is again opening to the public today, complete with safety measure to keep storm waters out in the future.
